Originally from the north, I grew up in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, a small town about thirty miles west of Philadelphia. I graduated from Penn State University (We are!) where I majored in Secondary Education and minored in English and Communications. Soon after graduating from college, I moved south, which had been something I planned on doing for a few years. Having never been to Charlotte before, I headed south to start my teaching career at Ardrey Kell.
I am now entering my sixth full year teaching at Ardrey Kell High School. I am excited this year to be teaching English II for the third year. For my first three years here at AK, I taught all English I courses. It's hard to believe I have been teaching for six years!
When I'm not at school, I'm typically at Target, Home Goods, or roaming through aisles and aisles of books at Barnes and Noble. I love fall, college football, decorating, organizing, and traveling. My favorite trip so far has been to the islands of Greece. Santorini is home to the MOST beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. I'm a Philadelphia sports fan to the core. And no, I'm not over the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018. I will bring it up at least 10 times throughout the semester. This fall will definitely be a little bit different because the Nittany Lions won't be playing their regularly scheduled football season. Sigh.
I married my husband, who many of you may know, in May of 2019. He used to be a gym teacher at Hawk Ridge and Elon Park - Mr. Shinn! We have the cutest chocolate lab in the whole world named Daphne, and she is full of energy! We also recently welcomed a baby girl, Hadley, in June of this year (which is why I missed your first few weeks of school). She is the cutest little squish in the entire world and we are smitten with her.
I am looking forward to another great school year. Teaching has always been my passion- ever since I was a child. I am so fortunate to be able to come to school every day to do what I love! I can't wait to get to know all of my students during our time together this year! Virtual or not, we are going to make this semester a great one!
Go Penn State!! Go Eagles!!
